INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Dear Father, we are sorry and deeply regret those many times that we have exchanged your truth for the lies of this world ---the beguiling lies of our materialistic and pagan culture and the deceptions that we have permitted to take hold and flourish in our lives. Forgive our spiritual laziness, our active disobedience, and our inattention to the poor and hurting around us. We are mindful of how we have ignored your teachings; how we have disappointed you; how we are without excuse in the presence of your perfect holiness. Please show us once again your mercy and forgiveness, for our sins are many. Purify us from all unrighteousness and be our shelter from the storms that threaten to engulf us.

We will exalt and praise your name, O LORD. In your perfect faithfulness, you have done marvellous things, things planned long ago. You continue to be a constant refuge for the poor. Please keep us who trust in you in your perfect peace. That we would trust in you forever, for you are the Rock eternal. Our souls yearn for you in the night; in the morning our spirits long for you.

How precious to us are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them. We give you thanks for the innumerable blessings that you daily shower upon us. You do whatever pleases you and we are thankful that you have chosen to protect and provide for us in our weakness and in our times of need.

Please hear our prayers and petitions: We pray ---

FOR those who are sick and ailing among us, that you would comfort them, their families, and give their physicians and caregivers wisdom and patience.

FOR those of our children who are experiencing adjustment problems in this new school year, that you would guide and direct their parents, teachers, and counsellors to come alongside and minister Christ’s love to them.

FOR those in our church who have lost their jobs, that you would give them your peace and discernment so as to make the correct decisions about future employment.

FOR those considering leaving HK, that you would counsel and watch over them.

FOR peace in HK, that our season of oppression and anxiety will give rise to a spirit of revival in Christ’s churches and that opportunities for proclaiming the gospel will abound here and throughout Asia.

FOR a speedy return to in person Sunday worship, that your people will once again be connected and encouraged to serve one another.

In Jesus’ Name we pray. AMEN.

Pastor's Corner - September 3, 2020

I am pleased that I now have the opportunity to visit with you by means of this “Pastor’s Corner.” I welcome the opportunity to communicate about current church events and happenings on a periodic basis. I welcome any comments or inquiries that you may have.

I am also grateful for the warm response to my sermon series as I continue to preach through the Gospel of Mark. As we travel with our Lord on the road to Jerusalem, His teaching on what it means to be a disciple is taking on a sharper edge.

If you have not felt uncomfortable at times hearing Jesus’ words as measured against your own life, then I have failed to communicate His message with the seriousness that it deserves.

If it is any consolation for you, know that both Theresa and I have been so challenged by our Lord’s teaching that we are strategically reordering our own ministry priorities.

It is my prayer for ECC that as we together travel the sometimes difficult and challenging road to Jerusalem, that our loving Father would open the eyes of our hearts to His perfect will for each of our lives.

May the blessing of the Lord be with you and your family.

Soli Deo Gloria
